What Is 100 Percent Cotton Fabric?

100 cotton means the fabric is not blended and is made of a stronger, softer, and more comfortable natural product consisting of fibers picked from the plant. On one side it’s strong enough to last many hot washes, and on the other hand, it’s biodegradable. 100 cotton fabric has the characteristics of moisture absorption, moisture retention, heat resistance, alkali resistance, and hygiene. Usually, more than 95% cotton can be called pure cotton, so pure cotton is not necessarily 100 cotton.

Types Of 100 Percent Cotton Fabric

In terms of composition, non-woven fabrics are mainly divided into chemical fiber non-woven fabrics and natural fiber non-woven fabrics. Chemical fiber non-woven fabrics are mainly produced with polypropylene fibers, polyester fibers, polyamide fibers, polyacrylonitrile fibers, viscose fibers, etc. Natural fibers include cotton fibers, hemp fibers, wool fibers, silk fibers, and the like.

Nonwovens are typically manufactured by putting small fibers together in the form of a sheet or web, then spunlaced, needled, or hot rolled to reinforce, and finally finished to form a nonwoven fabric. 100 cotton fabric is made of 100% natural cotton. It is the perfect combination of natural fiber and non-woven technology. Without any chemical additives in the production process, it has skin-friendly and softness unmatched by other fabrics.

Winner PurCotton uses unbleached high-quality cotton to produce 100% pure cotton fabric, and bleach at the final step, while others do it in the beginning.  Why do we choose to do this? Firstly, after-bleaching can protect the cotton fiber from damage and improve the tensile strength of the product. Secondly, after degreasing and bleaching at high temperature and high pressure, the whole process is chlorine-free and less bio-burden. Therefore, our products are fully qualified for use in hygiene, medical, home care, and cosmetics.

How To Identify 100 Percent Cotton Fabrics?

The most direct and effective way is through combustion experiments. The 100 cotton fabric will burn immediately once it is close to the flame, and continue to burn faster. It gives off a smell of burning paper during the process. Finally, there would be very little residue after burning, which is soft black or grey powder. The chemical fiber will melt first and then drip when it is close to the flame. The continued combustion is slow, and there would be black smoke. The final residue is black or brown hard objects.

100 cotton fabric has high tenacity, it is not easy to tear, and there is no fluff or dust when tearing. The chemical fiber is torn as soon as it is torn, and it will drop dust.

100 cotton fabric will have the smell of cotton resin, and chemical fiber will have a slightly pungent smell due to the addition of chemical components.

Is 100 Cotton Fabric Stretchy?

As far as cotton itself is concerned, it’s not that stretchy. Because it is a plant fiber, plants must have rigidity and structure to grow upright in their natural environment. Individual fibers help give plants structure. Since 100% cotton fabrics are made from only cotton fibers, it makes sense that cotton doesn’t stretch as much. The elasticity of 100 cotton fabric depends on how it is woven. While the individual fibers are rigid, the way the fabric is woven can be altered to increase or decrease elasticity, depending on the fabric’s use.
